"If Only I Could Fly" Project
This work is about the inevitable patterns of consumption people follow in order to exist in this modern world. This vulture's wing is made of repurposed styrofoam and recycled paperboard containers, featuring 78 gasoline-receipt "feathers" displaying the total amount of gas my car consumed in the year 2008, recorded on a spreadsheet next to the wing. The price of the artwork was the price I paid for gasoline in 2008, just over two thousand dollars in total. The price of gas varied widely in 2008, ranging between $1.60 to $ 4.20 per gallon. "If I Could Only Fly" reminds me of the recurrent dreams I had as a child where I had wings and I could just fly anywhere I wished to go. Oh, if Only...
