• STEAM2020

    January 24 - May 30, 2020.
    Invitational group exhibition
Pensacola Museum of Art, 1st floor, Pensacola, FL.

    https://uwf.edu/cassh/departments/art-and-design/steam2020/

The STEAM2020 Exhibition engages contemporary art with science and new technologies. The exhibiting artists challenge narratives of human ecologies and offer exciting insights into creative processes. This show explores trans-disciplinary approaches to the concept of ecosystems as a metaphor for critical thought. Through the intersection of art and science, STEAM2020 provides an aesthetic platform that showcases the results of collaborative experiments and observations related to the environment.

Exhibiting participants investigate ecologies as a method of describing natural or biological inter-dependencies and cooperations. Artworks on display use systems such as mapping strategies to describe the environment, the anthropological, and the geopolitical. Other organizational methods such as urban planning models are employed to evaluate and understand our relationship as a part of a co-mutual ecosystem. In this way, we can apply the idea of an “ecosystem” as a concept for mapping the interdependencies and the co-mutualisms of a group of actors.

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics used to describe and promote collaborations within the humanities and sciences and interdisciplinary work. The UWF STEAM exhibitions started in 2014 and have returned as a wide-ranging triennial of programming that intensely explores interdisciplinary work between the arts and sciences.
