ARTIST STATEMENT:

Water filtration and flow permeate the conceptual core of my artwork. These concepts are clarified by my material choices and processes. I enjoy utilizing a wide range of media, although I gravitate toward materials that require the use (or removal) of water in order to take shape.

Affects of time and erosion are fascinating; they provide evidence of water’s immensely dynamic and transformative power. I am interested in the spiraling patterns that naturally occur in water flow, and how similar patterns are found within a plethora of natural forms.

I'm intrigued by the concept of Biomimicry, which is essentially "Innovation inspired by nature"; my artwork aims to elucidate the discrepancies and connections between natural and human-made systems. Water is an essential, limited resource that we exploit by diverting and controlling it through elaborately constructed filtration systems for our convenience. We can learn to adapt our inefficient systems by aligning their function more closely with natural systems that are self-sustaining, or can recycle their energy.

My work aims to inspire viewers to reflect upon their personal relationship with water. How can each of us help to the conserve and respect this vital and limited resource for generations to come?
