Slumped plate glass with hand-drawn diagrams of a "Flat Leaf Water Filter". The drawing was silk-screened onto plate glass using enamels. Moire patterns are created by the screen fabric placed beneath the glass. Since the silk-screen operates as a permeable membrane, filtration and permeability are part of the process as well as the concept.

The "Flat Leaf Water Filter" contains fossil-like skeletons of microscopic water plants called diatoms that strain impurities from water. This natural process has been used widely for decades, and was routinely used by the military in WWII. The filter is lightweight, easily portable, and simple to use.
